Shortage of Barbers
Believe it or not, in Northern Virginia we have a shortage of barbers. Now that may come to you as a surprise, but its true.
There are more cosmetologist than there are barbers. *Most people don't even know the difference between a #cosmetologist and a #barber (this will be explained in a different blog post). There are plenty of shops all over NoVA. However, the real question is are they legit?
The key word is cutting hair. Just because you cut hair doesn't mean you are a barber. A barber is a licensed individual that either went to school or completed an apprenticeship program. In the state of #Virginia we have an overwhelming amount of people cutting hair without a license (this will be explained in a different blog post). Why is that a big deal? Would you go to a dentist that wasn't licensed?
Think why barbers even have a license in the first place. Public Safety and Sanitation. There are plenty of #YouTube videos out there on how to cut hair. How many videos out there teach you the proper way to sanitize your equipment and make sure you aren't spreading any diseases?
Did you know that to get your license you have to pass a background check? It helps prevent a child sitting in a pedophiles chair.
So how can you tell if the person cutting your hair is a licensed barber?
At every station that person's license should be displayed. If you don't see a license at their station... its a dead give away. Besides the fact its the law to display your license. Just think, why would someone go through all the trouble of getting their license and not display it on the wall? Its like you going to College and you not displaying your college diploma!
Now, if you see a license does that mean its a barbers license?
Does that matter? (My opinion on this will be in a different blog post) As long as the person cutting your hair has a license, that's all that matters.
